Welcome to PPSBA!

PPSBA (Plantation Park Singers Booster Association) is a not-for-profit organization made up of parents, guardians, or friends of singers in the Plantation Park Singers Chorus. Membership is free. Meetings are held monthly and follow Roberts’ Rules of Order. To see PPSBA’s Constitution, By-Laws, and so on, please visit our website. (Links to an external site.) Minutes from past school years are available from our archive upon request.

Because Chorus does not receive funding from the school budget, PPSBA requests donations to help cover operational costs. A $25 fair share registration donation & a $30 uniform rental donation (paid online or in cash) per child are requested by Oct. 1. Donations cover costs such as sheet music, notebooks, office supplies, costumes, uniforms, props, replacement uniforms, etc. Sing-a-thons & program book ad sales help raise additional funds. Parents can opt either to volunteer 2 or more hours during the school year, or to donate an additional $30 to help with the choir’s needs.

MISSION. Our mission is to help young singers develop scholarship, leadership, character, and musicianship through excellent choral music in a safe & secure environment. We do this by handling non-musical aspects of running a choir, such as rehearsal supervision, fundraising, costumes, stage preparation, chaperoning, refreshments, party and trip planning, photography, awards, copying, etc.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Every little bit of your time helps! In each singers’ online Chorus Registration Contract, parents indicate at least two areas of voluntary assistance. PPSBA compiles that information and utilizes our collective talents to help our singers. As Margie Dellerson, former PPE President of both PTA and PPSBA, used to say… “It’s for the Kids! It’s for our future!”

WHY THE PINK FLAMINGO?

PPSBA has existed since 1997, when a group of PPE parents decided that if they wanted their Chorus to travel and perform at places like Disney & Universal Studios, an organization was needed to help fundraise and organize events. So, a nonprofit booster club was formed.

One year, a parent donated a pink flamingo cut out of wood to the choir, and that pink flamingo became the car line reminder sign that a PPSBA booster club meeting was going to happen that evening at 6:30pm. The pink flamingo held up for several years of use, but one night, Mrs. Greggs forgot to bring it in after the meeting, and it mysteriously disappeared. Days and weeks went by, and despite laboriously and feverishly asking around and searching the nearby neighborhood, the flamingo remained MIA… until the next bulk pick-up day. An anonymous chorus parent rescued the poor flamingo from someone’s trash pile, and returned it to Mrs. Greggs at school, where it was restored to use for several more years.

Eventually the poor flamingo broke its leg and had to be put down… but the legend remains. 🙂
