Mrs. Nicole Greggs, fondly known as “Ms. Nicole” to MusicMakers! campers, grew up in Coral Springs, Florida, attending Coral Springs Elementary, Coral Springs Middle, and Coral Springs High Schools. Ms. Nicole founded MusicMakers! Summer Camp in 1998 to share her love of music with the community and to advocate for strong music education programs that change lives for the better. Ms. Nicole received her Bachelor of Music Education Magna cum Laude from the University of Miami in 1991, after spending her senior year abroad in Salzburg, Austria, and her Master of Arts in Teaching from Florida Atlantic University in 1997. She has been a National Board Certified Teacher since 2004, and is a former Professor of Elementary Music Education at Florida Atlantic University. A lifelong resident of Coral Springs, Ms. Nicole is the chief camp instructor, as well as head administrator, webmaster, curriculum designer, artist, and musical director. She is steadfastly and passionately committed to providing music education of the highest quality in all her teaching endeavors. In 2010 MusicMakers! Summer Camp became part of MusicMakers!, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to the furthering of music education in South Florida. Ms. Nicole is happily married with 3 children. She also teaches private vocal lessons in her studio year-round. She loves HGTV, Rubik’s Cubes, Pokemon Go, and CRAZY HATS!

Achievements: Ms. Nicole is certified in Music K-12, ESOL, and Elementary General Education K-6 with 33 years teaching expertise; she has been a Superior-rated Children’s Choir Director since 2000, including performances in Tallahassee (Capitol Building), Tampa (American Orff-Schulwerk Association National Convention), Orlando (Disney Springs, Music USA, OrlandoFest, and SeaWorld SoundWaves Music Festivals), Hard Rock Stadium and Marlins Stadium (6 National Anthem performances), Broward County Elementary Music Performance Assessment Festival, Plantation’s Art in the Park, and many others. She is author of the Broward County Elementary General Music Curriculum Planning Tool and Curriculum; she was 2006 Finalist for Broward County Teacher of the Year, 2008 Winner of Broward County Arts Teacher of the Year; and 2010 Florida Atlantic University Outstanding Alumni Educator. Ms. Nicole is a member of professional organizations NAFME (formerly MENC), FMEA, FEMEA, FVA, BMEA, & BCEMTA.

ASSISTANT INSTRUCTORS

Ms. Elizabeth Hagan is a Paraprofessional at Plantation Park Elementary School during the school year. A graduate of Coral Springs High School, “Ms. Lizzie” has extensive musical experience in Band and Choir, especially with Woodwind and Percussion instruments. Loved by campers and staff alike for her positive attitude and never-ending patience with children, Ms. Lizzie has been instrumental in the success of MusicMakers! since 2007 as both a counselor and instructor. Ms. Lizzie will graduate with a degree in Forensic Science in the fall of 2024. She loves Star Wars, Anime, and Pokemon Go!

Mrs. Mary Moreno-Peña was born in Honduras. She began her musical studies at the National Conservatory Francisco Díaz Zelaya, and continued undergraduate studies at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras. She has a master’s degree in Music Performance from Southeastern Louisiana University. In Honduras, Mary was a founding member of the National Symphony Orchestra, where she served as principal clarinet for ten years. She was the clarinet instructor at two of the most important music schools in the country, as well as general music teacher at elementary, middle, and high school levels. Mrs. Peña has performed recitals in different cities in Honduras as well as Washington DC and Louisiana within the U.S.. As a soloist, she has performed with the Symphony Orchestra of San Pedro Sula and the National Symphony Orchestra in Honduras. Mary currently lives in Florida and works as a Paraprofessional at Plantation Park Elementary School. She visits Honduras with her family during summers and collaborates with their country’s musical institutions, offering lessons, master classes, and performing recitals and concerts. She loves reading, making music, and attending theater and music performances.

Ms. Delisa Rufus, Percussion Instructor, is a graduate of J.P. Taravella High School, and has been an integral part of MusicMakers! since 1999, when her mother, Mrs. Donice Rufus, was Woodwinds instructor at MusicMakers!. An accomplished percussionist, “Ms. Delisa” has served as Pit Instructor for several local marching bands and was a longtime member of the performing percussion group, Stryke. Ms. Delisa has arranged and choreographed several MusicMakers! shows. Known for her fun sense of humor and amazing musical talent, Ms. Delisa graduated from FIU with a degree in Music with emphasis in music education in December 2023.

Application window is open February 1- June 1 annually, but if you are late, there may still be openings. Service hours are awarded for your time.
